“The NSA community will increase students’ happiness while learning by focusing on each individual.”
In sixth grade we will be incorporating high interest, differentiated reading material through digital learning activities and infusing students’ learning styles into weekly lessons in an effort to support this goal.

Meet Your Teachers

Welcome to 6th Grade at North Star Academy!  We are so excited to have you next year.  In 6th grade you will have the opportunity to become the best you can in many areas.  In language arts we will be writing many different genres such as biographies, poetry, argument essays, and creative stories.
As scientists, we will study the Sun-Earth-Moon system, the Solar System, Matter, Energy and Transfer of Energy, Weather and Climate, and Ecosystems.   In our Core Knowledge curriculum we will study Microorganisms, Heat, Light, and Sound, Oceans, Plate Tectonics, and the Circulatory System.  We will attend Space Camp where you will be part of a space mission and also come prepared to get hands-on with tons of experiments.  You will go back in time with the history of the Greeks and Romans, experience what life was like in a medieval village, and see if you can survive the French Revolution.
We are confident that as sixth graders you know all about North Star Academy.  You know the rules and procedures that will help us have a successful year. We are counting on you to set an example for the younger grades!  We are looking forward to a great year with great friendships!

Miss Ruth Bird

Miss Bird is a native Californian, replanting roots in Utah in 2013.  She attended UVU and Weber State University and graduated in 2000 with a Bachelors of Science in Education with a minor in Spanish.  She taught in the California public school system for 13 years in grades 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8 and is now five years into teaching 6th grade here at North Star.  Outside the classroom she spends her time traveling, hiking, listening to wholesome rap/hip hop music, going to baseball games to cheer her nephews on, having family dinners, seeing movies, and telling stories and jokes with people she loves.  She can’t wait to spend the next 180 days getting to know students and turning their new learning and ideas into memories.

Mrs. Wendy O'Neil

Mrs. O’Neil has two children and has been married 21 years to Brian O’Neil.  She received her Bachelors of Science in Family Studies & Human Services, from Kansas State University in 1997.  She currently holds a level 2 teacher license that qualifies her to teach K-8th grade.    Mrs. O’Neil & her family are avid K-State Wildcat fans, so purple is her favorite color!  She eager and super excited to start her fourth year teaching 6th grade!  Mrs. O’Neil has taught 3rd grade at North Star Academy for two years.  She has also worked as 5th grade teacher assistant, and before that, she served on the PTO for 4 years.   Mrs. O’Neil loves to watch her daughter play soccer and her son play football.  She has a passion for baking, gardening and loves to travel.
